MESA, Ariz. — The No. 28 Georgia women's golf team posted a 3-over 291 in Friday's opening round of the Clover Cup at Longbow Golf Club. The Bulldogs are tied for sixth in the team field, seven shots off the pace of TCU.

Georgia was even through 10 holes but then lost seven shots between Nos. 11-14. The Bulldogs rallied to play the final four holes at 4-under.

"We fought at the end of the day, which is a big positive, but we need to do a better job as a team putting ourselves in a position where we don't need to rally," head coach Josh Brewer said. "There's just a few things that kept us from being at the top of the leaderboard. We've talked about it, and we know we're good enough to do that. Our expectations are to play that way tomorrow and be in a really good position entering the final round on Sunday."

Caterina Don's 1-under 71 was the low loop on Friday for the Bulldogs, who also counted a 72 from Jenny Bae, a 74 from Jo Hua Hung and a 75 from Caroline Craig.

LSU's Ingrid Lindblad is the individual leader after shooting 65. For Georgia, Don is tied for 12th, Bae is tied for 18th, Hung is tied for 27th, Craig is tied for 38th and Isabella Holpfer, who shot 78, is tied for 62nd.

Don opener her day with eight straight pars before a birdie at No. 9 put her in red numbers at the turn. Following bogeys at No. 11 and No. 13, she birdied No. 15 and No. 17 to get back to 1-under on the day.

Bae played the front side at 1-over, mixing a birdie at No. 4 with bogeys at No. 5 and No. 7. Another bogey at No. 12 put her at 2-over, but Bae also birdied No. 15 and No. 17 to fight back to even.

"We finished off with some birdies, and we'll try to ride that finish into tomorrow's start," Brewer said. "We feel like we should be able to post a score that's under par and will set out to do that tomorrow to be in the final pairing on the final day."

Rounding out the top-10 teams on the leaderboard behind the Horned Frogs are No. 17 LSU and Clemson both at 286; Kentucky at 288; Texas A&M at 290; the Bulldogs and New Mexico at 291; North Carolina at 292; ETSU at 295; and FAU at 297.

Georgia will be paired with Kentucky and Texas A&M for Saturday's second round, teeing off between 10:50-11:30 am ET. Live scoring is available online at www.golfstat.com.
