ATHENS, Ga.
– The 10th-ranked Georgia softball team saw its win streak broken Sunday afternoon with a 5-1 loss to #2 Florida (23-3, 4-2).

After setting a Jack Turner Stadium attendance record on Saturday, Georgia fans topped that number Sunday as 2,457 faithful packed the ballpark for the series finale.

Georgia's win streak ends at 25 games, tying the all-time program record. It's Georgia's first loss this season since its loss to #3 Oregon on opening day, Feb. 8. The Bulldogs are 26-2 on the season, 5-1 in Southeastern Conference play.

Georgia was narrowly outhit 6-4 in the game. Kendall Burton had two hits on the day. Jessica Morgan also had a hit and scored the lone Bulldog run.

Kylie Bass (9-1) suffered her first loss in the circle. She pitched the complete seven innings, allowing only one earned run and struck out five.

Aleshia Ocasio (10-2) earned the complete-game win for the Gators in the circle.

Kayli Kvistad reached on a two-out infield single in the top of the first following a couple quick outs recorded by Bass. Jordan Matthews hit a high popup to right field that Burton lost in the sun, falling for a double to drive in Kvistad and putting Florida in front 1-0.

Florida's second run of the day scored in the fifth inning. With Alex Voss on second, Amanda Lorenz grounded out to Febrey, pushing Voss to third. On the play, Febrey's throw to third got away, allowing Voss to score.

Florida tacked on three runs in the top of the seventh. The first came on a base hit to right by Sophia Reynoso. Burton's throw to the plate was on the mark but mishandled by Morgan as Voss was safe at home. Lorenz then hit a two-run home run to center, lengthening the lead to 5-0.

The Bulldogs evaded the shutout in the bottom half of the inning. Morgan doubled to right center with two down. Burton then singled to left. The leftfielder muffed the play, allowing Burton to move to second and Morgan to score, 5-1. A groundout to third ended the game.

Georgia hosts in-state foe Georgia Southern Wednesday at Jack Turner Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday's game will feature $1 hot dogs.

Head Coach Lu Harris-Champer
On Georgia's performance Sunday…
"I'm really proud of the team. We came out, put our heart out there, played hard. I know that the girls love playing in front of such an incredible crowd. The crowd was amazing today. And we're going to continue to our best to play harder for them."

On playing in front of a capacity crowd…
"That's so fun. It makes playing the game so much more fun. You get a lot of adrenaline, and it allows you to play your best."

On looking forward in SEC play…
"It's the SEC, anybody can beat anybody on any given day. That's just how good the conference is. So again, we're going to continue to focus on what we do, and continue to do the best we can at what we do."
